LUXURY ALCOHOL BOTTLES DESIGNED BY ARTISTS
From the bottle of whiskey signed Aston Martin, to the imposing bottle of Extra Old cognac, Hennessy XO designed by architect Frank Gehry, the spirits industry does not hesitate to bet on big names to offer its alcohols a vial of value. What are these elegant bottles that are sold at a high price?
Strengthen its brand image
A champagne designed with the jeweler Mellerio, a glass of rosé from Chanel or Dolce and Gabbana or a few drops of gin, made in Buckingham Palace ... we can no longer count the number of brands and institutions flirting with the world of spirits.
The recipe is always the same. Joining an alcohol with a brand, and producing bottles in limited series, while working on design to appeal to lovers of a big name in the automobile industry or a big fashion label. For example, Aston Martin has teamed up with the Scottish Bowmore Distillery to produce 25 soon-to-market single malt bottles.
An elegant bottle for the tastiest alcohol. Entirely handcrafted, the Scottish glass bottle is encased in an authentic CB5 Aston Martin engine piston, popularized in the 1960s by the James Bond saga. Collector's item, each bottle will be offered for sale for 55,000 euros.
Luxury bottles: a playground for artists
These marketing operations are often playgrounds for artists and designers who can give free rein to their imagination. Architect Frank Gehry recently made a name for himself through the design of a bottle of Hennessy XO cognac to celebrate 150 years of his Extra Old.
The bottle is found hidden in an imposing sculpture made of gold and glass. A crumpled bronze sleeve covered with 24 carat gold covers part of the bottle which will only be sold in 150 copies. Each decanter will be numbered and stamped with the signature of the architecture and will be offered for sale for just under 15,000 euros.
If the presence of a celebrity gives a brand even more cachet, the process is sometimes reversed. Thus, when Dolce & Gabbana or Chanel invest in rosé, it gives this “popular” alcohol a high-end dimension. The fashion house's Cote de Provence, stands out from other bottles on the market because it is made by Chanel, has the brand's logo on the label, and is produced on the protected island of Porquerolles in the Var . Certified organic since 2015, the bottle is sold for 19.90 euros.
Gemstone bottles
At the high end, the quality of the alcohol contributes to the constitution of the price. However, a bottle is also very expensive because of its bottle. As proof, the Henri IV Dudognon Héritage cognac and its bottle designed by the jeweler Jose Davalos, weighing nearly 8 kilos. Encrusted with 6,500 diamonds, the bottle is crafted from 24-karat gold and platinum, making it the most expensive alcohol bottle in the world (1.7 million euros). Then comes the Champagne Gout de Diamants and its label in solid 18-carat white gold encrusted with a 19-carat white diamond, sold for 1.4 million euros or the Spluch Tequila made by Mexican goldsmiths, with 4 kilos of platinum. pure and 6,000 brilliants sold for just under 215,000 euros per bottle.
